Hinton Reinforcement Scheme

Project Specification

Successfully delivered a 22-week programme involving the installation of 7.2 km of 250 mm HDPE water main, including pressure testing, chlorination, de-chlorination, and bacteriological sampling.

Project Highlights

  • 7.2 km water main installation delivered within a 22-week programme.
  • Complex rail-crossing works completed through specialist trenchless installation techniques.
  • Maintained customer water supplies through live network interventions.
  • Successfully managed stakeholder interfaces including Network Rail and highway authorities.
  • Delivered innovative HDD solutions to minimise environmental and traffic impacts.

Key responsibilities and achievements included:

  • Managed the design process and secured all required permissions for works within the railway environment, including obtaining Network Rail approvals and completing Form A and Form B submissions.
  • Delivered a 100 m UTX (Under Track Crossing) drill beneath an operational railway, installing a 400 mm HDPE sleeve and subsequently inserting a 250 mm HDPE water main at a depth of 9.2 m.
  • Installed and drilled a 14-inch under-pressure tee connection, eliminating the need for an interruption to supply and maintaining continuous service to customers.
  • Installed an 8-inch district meter complete with bypass arrangement and reinforced concrete base.
  • Designed and delivered an 80 m section of 250 mm HDPE water main using Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) beneath the A12 at a depth of 5 m, avoiding disruption and road closures on this major transport route.
