Fressingfield Tower to Benhall WTW Reinforcement

Project Specification

Successfully delivered a 22-week programme involving the installation of 7.2 km of 250 mm HDPE water main, including pressure testing, chlorination, de-chlorination, and bacteriological sampling.

Project Highlights

  • 7.6 km of 250 mm HDPE water main installed within a 22-week programme.
  • Complex HDD crossing successfully completed beneath the River Alde.
  • Maintained continuous water supply through live network interventions.
  • Facilitated environmental and archaeological compliance through strategic trial-holing operations.
  • Delivered civil, mechanical, and utility infrastructure associated with a new booster installation.
  • Successfully commissioned reinforcement infrastructure to improve network resilience and supply security.

Key responsibilities and achievements included:

  • Managed the delivery of 7.6 km of 250 mm HDPE water main infrastructure as part of a strategic reinforcement scheme between Fressingfield Tower and Benhall Water Treatment Works.
  • Designed and delivered a 100 m Horizontal Directional Drill (HDD) beneath the River Alde, installing a 250 mm HDPE water main whilst minimising environmental impact and avoiding disruption to the watercourse.
  • Planned and completed multiple trial-hole investigations to facilitate archaeological and environmental assessments along the route, ensuring compliance with stakeholder and regulatory requirements.
  • Installed and drilled a 15-inch under-pressure tee connection, maintaining continuous customer supply and eliminating the need for operational impacts at the Water Treatment Works.
  • Constructed a 4 m x 4 m reinforced concrete plinth to accommodate a booster installation, and housing including associated electrical ducting, chambers.
  • Coordinated testing, commissioning, and final connection activities to ensure successful integration into the existing network.
